How to Wear Cropped Pants All Year Long

Transitional times between seasons is rough. One day it’s sunny, the next you’re shivering all day long. At least that’s how the weather has been in Seattle lately, which means trying to dress adequately for any weather in between has been rough. Last weekend we even were threatened with the “worst storm to hit in 50 years” that fortunately never materialized. When it comes to transitional dressing, I always love to find ways to wear some of my favorites from different seasons all year long. For me, summer brought a culotte obsession, so now it’s all about figuring out how to wear cropped pants all year long.

How to Wear Cropped Pants All Year Long

Today I thought I’d share the easiest trick ever to wearing your cropped pants, be it culottes or otherwise, all throughout the cool months. Sure, you could pack them away and opt to wear full-length pants, but why not give yourself even more options? And even better, you already have this item in your closet.

As the storm clouds roll in, it feels kind of funny to be sharing an outfit with bare legs and no sleeves. It won’t be long before an outfit like this is only a distant memory from summer. However, this outfit is one of my favorites that I’ve worn recently, and it just so happened to be what I wore to the final day of Bellevue Fashion Week for the Front Row Fashion Show presented by Vogue.

I most definitely look forward to Seattle’s annual fashion events. It’s always fun to see how everyone interprets how to dress for a fashion show. There’s a lot of black, which is why I always opt for a pop of color and an interesting statement piece. (P.S. if you missed my last post, I covered five ways you too can make your own statement at your next fashion event!) Continue reading

5 Halloween Costumes That Are TOTALLY Appropriate for Work

Halloween is one of my absolute favorite holidays. From having an excuse to binge on all the candy and being able to dress up in a creative costume, Halloween is a day I always look forward to. Throughout high school and college, picking out a costume took me months. I’d start planning as early as the summer to be sure I had something unique picked out. When I graduated and began working, I came to the striking realization that no one wears work Halloween costumes.

Being the rebel that I am (well, not really, but bear with me), I still like to come up with a costume that isn’t super out there, but still allows me to have a little fun. I thought I’d share five work appropriate Halloween costumes that won’t cost you a fortune, aren’t super cheesy (well, okay, maybe a little bit), and all the items in these costumes you can wear again and again.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without everyone’s favorite mouse. Minnie Mouse is a costume that doesn’t require a ton of work yet is so adorable that I think you’ll make everyone smile!

5 Ways to Make a Unique Statement at Fashion Week

Fashion Week is something I look forward to every year. While I was in NYC during Fashion Week this year, a lack of planning on my part and the fact that we were there to visit friends meant that I didn’t get to take part in the festivities in person. Luckily, back in Seattle, we have Fashion Week a bit later. Every year I try to make it to at least one show, and almost every year, my favorite show ends up being the Independent Designer Runway Show at Bellevue Fashion Week. If I’m being honest, one of the things I look forward to yet also somewhat dread is figuring out what to wear to fashion week!

IDRS hosts many small, independent designers and fosters their production of a collection that they reveal on the runway during Bellevue Fashion Week. A team of judges decides who wins $5,000 and a second winner is then selected for Audience Choice. Think Project Runway, but with smaller production costs. ;)

What to Wear to Fashion Week

What I love about independent designers is that they take risks. Unusual patterns, shapes, colors, and draping struts down the runway, like the creation below from Devonation. This year, it inspired me to dig a little deeper into my closet and wear something out of my “normal” and go beyond my usual, everyday comfort zone.

Stitch Fix October 2016 Review + Giveaway

And just like that, it’s October. Fall is most definitely here; yesterday I woke up chilly, looked outside to be met with leaves everywhere and grey skies. I layered three tops and still wasn’t warm enough. I hope it’s not a sign of what’s to come this fall and winter season. I like cooler weather, but not that cool.

Last weekend my most recent Stitch Fix arrived, and I can’t wait to share what I received with you. A new month always brings a new package on my doorstep, and you know by now that my stylist, Lucy, always does a great job picking out things for me.
