Packing Tips and Tricks for a Fall Trip

Thanks to Kate of Kate the {Almost} Great for guest posting + sharing these amazing packing tips and tricks for a fall trip!

With Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Veteran’s Day, the fall is actually a great time to take a long weekend and get away. Some are also lucky enough to travel for a week or more (cough Jenn cough). In my opinion, packing for anything can be difficult. But after years of traveling cross country on a regular basis, I have finally mastered it, so today I’m bringing you the benefits of my years of struggle: a packing checklist.

Traveling to somewhere warm, with a summer-like climate? Check out my post about packing for a summer trip! Trying to figure out how to live from 1 suitcase for 2 weeks? I can help you with that, too!

Packing Tips And Tricks for a Fall Trip

Packing Tips and Tricks for a Fall Trip

– Pack items that you can mix and match

– Start with basics and then add statement pieces

– Check the weather! This may seem like a no-brainer, but I’ve definitely not done this before and then suffered the consequences after assuming what the typical weather is like.

– Start with a list of things you’re definitely doing. Are you going to go out to a nice restaurant one night? Are you going hiking? Are you going clubbing? Are you going to the gym? Also may seem like a no-brainer, but it makes a huge difference. Continue reading

The Hundred Event

As you may have gathered by now, I spent last weekend in Dallas for The Hundred Event. I’d never been to Texas, and this is the first year of The Hundred so I had no idea what to expect. Considering most other blogging events I have attended have been great, I figured I had absolutely nothing to lose, and only knowledge to gain.

It all started from an innocent tweet, where I complimented Grace on her blog. Lauren, the brains behind The Hundred, emailed me that evening and asked if it looked like something I’d like to attend. Considering I’d never been to 1. a blog conference, or 2. Texas, I figured why the heck not. YOLO, right? Continue reading

Before we left Lummi Island, we had to explore the beach! There’s a little private access trail right across the road from the Willows Inn, so after our breakfast fail, we took to the trail. This gorgeous beach was our reward… now if only Washington beaches weren’t so rocky! Ouch.

They are still pretty darn pretty though. I suppose that makes up for the 5 million rocks that made their way into my sandals. Continue reading

Bellingham Adventures

Our adventures on Lummi Island concluded Monday morning, and we ferried ourselves back over to the main land. More on that on Friday, because I have some outfit shots to share, but needless to say, I think we were both happy to be back to “civilization.” What can I say, we are city people.

Floral Shift + Lummi Island

I’ve been blabbing about our trip last weekend to Lummi Island in almost every post this week, but I still haven’t really shared much about it (other than the lack WiFi or TV on the island) So, there’s that. But really, this was a fun little weekend escape, though I think both of us were thrilled to get off the island and back to civilization when all was said and done.

We departed on Sunday, which happened to be Dave’s birthday (and no, I won’t disclose his age. That’s not nice.) He didn’t know where we were going. This is our third birthday together, and each year I’ve surprised him with a mystery destination. It’s hard to up the ante, but I jumped at the chance to travel to Lummi Island after I heard about Willows Inn Chef Blaine Wetzel co-winning this year’s James Beard Award. Continue reading
