7 Essentials to Pack for Holiday Travel

Sponsored Post: Thanks so much to noosa yoghurt for sponsoring this post.

Ah yes, the holiday season. My favorite time of year, but also the time where I feel like I’m losing my mind. Between work, personal commitments, holiday shopping, blogging, friends, and family, I often feel like I’m losing my marbles. Holiday festivities require an almost cross-country type of planning that I love to hate. I’m a planner, but I’m also a procrastinator, so when it’s go-time, I’m often scrambling and reciting my lists of what I need to bring.

With that said, I wanted to share a few holiday road trip essentials that I think you should always have handy for your next trip over the hills and through the woods to grandma’s house. Or you know, whichever holiday party you’re going to next that takes more than 15 minutes to get to. ;)

It’s been a long year. We started our house remodeling project about at this time last year, and it’s been an incredibly slow process. Both Dave and I work full time, and with my blog and our personal commitments, it’s very difficult to find the time to find the time to furniture shop, decorate, and plan our projects. Plus, after a long day of work it’s hard to be motivated to get on it.

We have a little kick in the pants now with Christmas coming – I really want us to be able to host Christmas Brunch at our house, and to do that, we need to have the living room done. For us, though, the priority has been the office and bedroom (for obvious reasons.) We formerly had a roommate (Dave’s brother), so this office space is completely new to us. We started with white walls and carpet… and now it looks completely different.

You’ve seen my desk space, but I thought it was time to reveal the (nearly) complete DIY makeup vanity and storage area I’ve been working on! (Or if you would like to be like Dave, you can call this my Lady Palace. Oh men…) If you’re planning on creating a vanity of your own soon, I’ve broken down the furniture pieces I’ve purchased, and some of the storage solutions that have worked for me and that I’m happy with, so far anyway!

Saturday Morning Routine

Sponsored Post: Thanks to noosa yoghurt for sponsoring today’s post. All opinions are my own.

Dog snuggles. Pumpkin yoghurt. Warm coffee. These are what my weekend mornings are made of. Even though my weekends are often jam packed with catching up with friends and family, running errands, shooting photos and writing blog posts, there’s nothing like indulging in a relaxing morning routine to start the day off. I’m a big believer in recharging through relaxation, and I find that if I don’t allow myself a little time just to chill, I feel even less motivated to get actual work done.

In the spirit of relaxation and indulging, I thought it would be fun to share how I start my Saturday mornings on a typical weekend.

Why I’m Thankful for My Dog

Sponsored Post: This post was sponsored by the National Dog Show Presented by Purina. I loved the idea of the #DogThanking campaign and am excited to help raise money for the AKC Canine Health Foundation!

I’ll be the first person to warn you that Shibas aren’t for the faint of heart, but I’m also the first person to tell you how much I treasure mine. Yesterday, a certain little man turned 3, and I couldn’t help but be a tiny bit sentimental for his younger days and also be sad that another year has passed by so quickly.

Purina Dog Thanking: Why I Love My Dog // hellorigby.com seattle lifestyle blog

As Thanksgiving draws near, it reminds me to be thankful for what I do have, and how I’m incredibly grateful to have such a special dog in my life. I was recently at an event where a woman received a devastating phone call that her dog had passed while she was away from home. My heart broke for her, and it reminded me of how we felt a few years ago when we learned that Dave’s dog Bonnie was very ill. I was instantly transported back to those emotions and felt for her. It’s an amazing thing to own a dog, but it’s incredibly difficult to lose one.

Well, it’s official. It’s November and I’m freezing. Full disclosure: I actually shot this outfit back in September, and held it for a cooler day. With so many in the middle of a heat wave, it felt funny to post something so not warm weather friendly. Now, however, it’s suddenly cooled off here and is continuing to stay in the 40s and 50s during the day and I wouldn’t be caught dead with bare legs outside. Maybe that’s just me though, I’m basically perpetually cold when it’s below 60 degrees. ;)
