5 Ways to Pamper Mom This Mother’s Day

My mom is a pretty special lady. At 50, she decided to take on a whole new career and hit the books so that she could do it. I think my leaving for college may have had something to do with that, but I appreciate her drive and can-do attitude. She’s one of those people who thinks of others first and rarely spends time or money on herself. If anyone deserves a special Mother’s Day, it’s mine, which is why I wanted to pamper mom this Mother’s Day!

5 Ways to Pamper Mom This Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day always reminds me to be appreciative of the skills and life lessons she has taught me. Because my mom works so hard and seems to always be doing something, whether it’s working, helping someone out of some type of financial or tax pickle (she’s a Tax Advisor and bookkeeper for small businesses and organizations), or off to take Rigby for a walk, I wanted to be sure Mother’s Day for her this year would be something where she didn’t have to do anything.

The Secret to Feeling More Confident

You know, I spent a lot of time in my younger days wishing I looked like someone else. And if I’m being honest, I still have some of those same hang ups. I never had a flat stomach, and I’ve had to learn how to dress in a way that minimizes it. My boobs are larger than most women who are my size and height. And my butt, well, it used to be nonexistent, and then I hit late-20-something and now I actually have pants that won’t accommodate it. I also have larger-than-average arms and shoulders, leftover from my swim team days.

Sure, I once wished all of it away. And sometimes I still do. But I’ve also learned the secret to being more confident. And I hate to break it to you, but there is none. The secret lies within you. It means accepting your flaws, whatever that means to you. What I may find a flaw in myself might be your best feature. What I may love about myself may be your biggest insecurity. What being in my late 20s has taught me is that no two people are alike, and that is something worth celebrating.

We as women are too hard on ourselves. We feel bad when we go up a size. (Or at least I do.) I put pressure on myself to never gain weight, to stay the same. And honestly, that’s just not practical. Our bodies change as we get older, and for some bodies who transition to having children, they may change a whole lot.

So how have I worked on feeling more confident?

Cherry Blossoms + Shopbop Sale

Every year when March rolls around I get excited because it means the cherry blossoms are almost in bloom. If you remember last year, then you might recall this outfit I shot with Dave under the cherry blossom trees at the University of Washington Quad, one of the most infamous of locations come spring. The trees bloom, and slowly fade over the course of a few weeks. Blink and you’ll miss them, but they are most definitely worth a trip and battling the crowds for a fun photo.

On a Saturday morning, my friend Ana Luiza and I ventured over to UW for some photos and a coffee date. It’s always fun getting together with blog friends to chat about blogging, shoot photos, and not get eye rolls when you take 5 minutes to get the perfect snap for your Instagramm Story. I’m only kind of kidding.

Casual Sneaker Outfits for Spring

If I had to make a guess about the trend that I have gravitated towards the most this year, I would have to say it has been sneakers. Athleisure isn’t dead if you ask me, and time and time again I’ve run across the absolute cutest sneakers that I just couldn’t resist. From bright red floral prints to more muted slip ons, to now a retro pair, the styles may have been different but the sentiment is still the same: comfort is ruling my wardrobe, and sneaker outfits have been my go-to this spring!

The great thing about sneakers is that they are so versatile. There’s really no need to worry about what to wear them with. From tees and jeans to spring dresses to jumpsuits, you really can’t go wrong. I mean honestly, have you ever seen a sneaker outfit and thought, wow, that really looks terrible? I know I haven’t. I mean, people wear them on their wedding day so really, they can work with anything. ;)

LUZIA by Cirque du Soleil

You know those days where it seems like everything is going wrong, but then it all turns around? That was my day last Thursday. I had the privilege of being invited to the media preview night for the LUZIA by Cirque du Soleil under the big top at Marymoor Park in Redmond, and while my night started off rocky, it ended in a beautiful performance that I can’t recommend enough.

What to Wear to Cirque du Soleil // Hello Rigby Seattle Fashion Blog Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets from Cirque du Soleil in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own!

I’ll set the stage by explaining these photos. You see, I had planned a full outfit to share what I wore to the show, as this is a style and beauty blog after all… but then as soon as I went to snap my first test photo, my beloved Canon 70D locked up. It error coded, and I died a little inside, but the show must go on, right? In shock, I had Dave help me get outfit photos on my iPhone. As much as I hear people harp about how amazing iPhone photos are… I’m just going to be honest and say I don’t think I’ll be switching anytime soon. ;)
