7 Lazy Girl Hacks to Keep You Healthy & Active This Winter

While I wouldn’t call myself lazy per say, I can’t say that I have the motivation and determination to work out on a consistent schedule. Or eat healthily 100% of the time. This girl loves her cupcakes, and I’m not about to give them up to go Keto. Or join the Whole 30. Or whatever other diet is so hot right now.

Sorry not sorry.

And I highly doubt I’m alone in these feelings. While there might be pressure to try the latest diet fads, for most of us, it’s not only not practical, it’s also not sustainable. For me, it’s all about those little daily hacks that keep me feeling good and healthy. It means indulging in the occasional cupcake, but maybe opting for a salad later. It means going outside more often and working those muscles, even if it’s just a power walk. Little things add up and can make a big difference to your physical appearance and also your mind too.

Spoiler alert: I’m not a fitness or health blogger. This isn’t going to be a post sharing how to get motivated to put two hours in at the gym and commit to a green smoothie a day. This is about the small hacks I make in my normal life to maintain my weight, get in more exercise, and still spend plenty of time watching Netflix in bed. ;)

Hello, 2018

Writing.

In the past, it was rarely a struggle for me. Then, 2017 happened and this girl lost her voice. It was still there, buried somewhere in my head wanting to get out, but somehow felt blocked and stifled. I had so many things going outside of blogging this past year that I had to put it in the backseat for my own sanity at times.

In the past, when things would happen to me, whether they were positive or negative, I would immediately want to start writing. But this past year has been tough in a way I didn’t expect. Our new house brought so many emotions: elation, joy, excitement. Then, it brought fear, dread, and for a fleeting moment, even regret.

A Very Midcentury Christmas + Easy Hostess Gift Ideas

It’s our first holiday season in our new {old} house, and while I was excited to decorate for Christmas, it came with a little hesitation. After all, we are still working on furnishing our home, so the idea of finding Christmas decor that would work for a house-in-transition was a bit intimidating.

A Very Mid Century Christmas

Fortunately, I have a lifetime to decide on exactly what decor we do or don’t need, so this year I took it easy on the decor and tried to keep the pressure for finding the “perfect” things low. Call our house decor minimalist or maybe just a touch of festive cheer. Either way, I’m pleased with the small Christmas touches I made throughout the house. And if you’re like me and feeling overwhelmed with the idea of decorating a new-to-you house for Christmas, don’t worry. It will come together!

His & Hers for the Holidays

Well, whether you like it or not, the holidays are in full swing. It seems like just yesterday it was Halloween and I was scrambling around to get our house in the spirit for that holiday. And just like that, I’m doing about the same for Christmas. Whoops. One day I’ll stop being such a procrastinator and have things together. Maybe. Anyone else seem to have this problem?!

To celebrate the holiday season, Dave and I spent most of our Saturday out shopping to fulfill wishes for names we pulled from a giving tree for a local charity. We started this tradition last year, where instead of shopping for each other, we shop for families in need. It’s way more fun to shop for presents for kids anyway, and often we find that if there’s something either of us wants or needs, we usually buy it for ourselves or each other. Plus, we hope it brings some relief to some parents out there, and smiles for their children.

Don’t Forget to Pack These for Your Next Adventure

Is there anything more enjoyable than an adventure? Whether you’re traveling to a new place, or just exploring your own neighborhood, there’s nothing like getting lost and taking in the world around you. Take my neighborhood, for example. With the changing seasons, I’ve been enjoying getting outside more often, taking Rigby for a walk, enjoying the crisp leaves beneath my feet, and taking in what little sunny days we have left.

Recently our adventure landed us on the other side of the country, too. While Virginia was not a destination I had on my list or even on my radar, we have friends who recently moved there with their baby whom we hadn’t met. The opportunity to visit presented itself, so we thought why not?! Of course, then the extensive planning and research began… just a few days before we left. Nothing like a last minute trip to shake things up!

And of course, the packing. One thing I did know to bring? My trusty snack bars from goodnessKNOWS. They come in a variety of yummy flavors (my favorites are strawberry & peanut and blueberry & almond), and I love that there are four squares to a bar for easy sharing. If you’d like to try them too, use code 25HELLORIGBY at checkout on Amazon to save 25%!

What to Pack for a Trip

Otherwise, packing is always the toughest for me since I never know when I’ve packed too many outfits, or am being a bit ridiculous with the camera gear. For this trip, I planned complete outfits ahead of time and kept the equipment to a usable minimum. Curious what I brought with me on our most recent adventure? Read on to find out!
