Spring Cleaning Tips for the Messy Girl

After buying our house and moving in, I learned very quickly that being a neat and tidy person doesn’t come naturally to me. I’m not sure why I thought I was super organized (spoiler alert: I’m not! And it takes a lot of work to appear like I am.) For whatever reason, I had this idea about myself that I was. Maybe it was wishful thinking. Or maybe it was just trying to hide the truth.

Disclosure: Thanks so much to Kroger Co. for sponsoring this post! All opinions are my own.

Either way, being tidy, organized, and keeping the dust bunnies away is just not my forte. I could try to blame it on Rigby. (After all, he does shed year round, and tufts of fur can often be seen blowing like tumbleweeds down our hallway!) I could also try to blame my small obsession with clothing, shoes, and accessories that often can be seen overflowing from my closet looking pristine. Or, I could just admit that I have a problem and find solutions to help me become organized.

Thank goodness my friends at Fred Meyer have a ton of organizational and cleaning solutions for every problem I faced in our new house, and so today I want to share what I’ve learned about getting our house in tip-top shape for spring. So read on for my spring cleaning and organizational tips for the messy girl!

How to Host the Perfect Galentine’s Brunch for your Gal Pals

Happy Galentine’s Day!

Today is the day to celebrate all of the wonderful women in your life, whether you’re celebrating your mom, your sister, your closest girlfriends, or yourself! I’m always inspired by the strong women in my life: my mom is my rock, and while I don’t have any sisters, she more than made up for it. I also am fortunate to have an amazing tribe of women around me: friends, aunts, cousins, and extended family that inspire me to be strong, courageous, brave, and passionate in whatever it is that I choose to do.

I hope you also have incredible women like them in your life to lift you up. I think it’s important, especially in hard times, to surround yourself with inspiring people. I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs, and I am grateful to be encouraged by these women.

Enough of the sap, and now onto how best to celebrate them! I know I just shared a gift guide to celebrating yourself or the women in your lives, but some of my favorite memories are those created through experiences. A beautiful meal, great conversation, many laughs, and maybe a sweet treat or two are the times I cherish the most. And while presents are special, memories are forever.

I recently hosted a few close friends for brunch. The theme was Galentine’s Day, so I popped over to Target to grab cute pieces for table decor, and whipped up a few special items for us to enjoy over conversation. We finished the meal off with sweet treats, and because we all met through blogging, lots of photos were taken of the day.

Whether you have time to whip up a beautiful brunch this weekend, or you’re just looking for an idea to spend an hour or two with a gal pal, I hope these ideas help you celebrate!

New Year, New Style with Stitch Fix

When it comes to fashion, experimentation is everything. This year, one of my style resolutions is not to be afraid to try new things. And if you’ve been feeling creatively stifled when it comes to your wardrobe too, then I’m happy to share how Stitch Fix can help us.

Over the years, my style has evolved from very much trendy to vintage to office casual to what it is today, a blend of all three. If I had to describe my style in the three words or less I would call it eclectic and unique. I enjoy blending vintage with modern trends, but in a practical way that can be worn from work to weekend easily.

Recently I was talking to Dave about how my style has evolved. He brought up something that I often forget: when we first met, I was in the biggest fashion rut ever. I was new to my career. I was tired and stressed from my perfectionist tendencies about my work, and let my style take a backseat. I most definitely didn’t have the energy to shop much after work, so I often stuck to my usual blouse and dark wash denim combination. At that time, Stitch Fix didn’t exist, and there wasn’t a great way to get new fashion inspiration sent to me to try in the comfort of my own home.
