5 Ways to Make a Unique Statement at Fashion Week

Fashion Week is something I look forward to every year. While I was in NYC during Fashion Week this year, a lack of planning on my part and the fact that we were there to visit friends meant that I didn’t get to take part in the festivities in person. Luckily, back in Seattle, we have Fashion Week a bit later. Every year I try to make it to at least one show, and almost every year, my favorite show ends up being the Independent Designer Runway Show at Bellevue Fashion Week. If I’m being honest, one of the things I look forward to yet also somewhat dread is figuring out what to wear to fashion week!

IDRS hosts many small, independent designers and fosters their production of a collection that they reveal on the runway during Bellevue Fashion Week. A team of judges decides who wins $5,000 and a second winner is then selected for Audience Choice. Think Project Runway, but with smaller production costs. ;)

What I love about independent designers is that they take risks. Unusual patterns, shapes, colors, and draping struts down the runway, like the creation below from Devonation. This year, it inspired me to dig a little deeper into my closet and wear something out of my “normal” and go beyond my usual, everyday comfort zone.

Stitch Fix October 2016 Review + Giveaway

And just like that, it’s October. Fall is most definitely here; yesterday I woke up chilly, looked outside to be met with leaves everywhere and grey skies. I layered three tops and still wasn’t warm enough. I hope it’s not a sign of what’s to come this fall and winter season. I like cooler weather, but not that cool.

Last weekend my most recent Stitch Fix arrived, and I can’t wait to share what I received with you. A new month always brings a new package on my doorstep, and you know by now that my stylist, Lucy, always does a great job picking out things for me.

Work-Ready Grey Tights Outfit + 5 Things You May Not Know About Me

Well, it’s officially fall, which means that over the weekend, I unpacked all of my thick wool sweaters, coats, and plaid from the box they’ve been hiding in since springtime. I missed them, and I look forward to their unveiling every year. It’s almost like getting an entirely new wardrobe as I temporarily forget about some of my favorites. Am I the only weirdo who does this? Probably not. ;)

It’s finally cool enough to have a need for tights. (Though I say that, and yesterday was actually warm enough for just a t-shirt. The weather is fickle.) Every year I replace my tights from the year previous. I just find that tights, no matter the price, tend to only last about a season from me before I accidentally catch them on something, they pill in particular spots from shoe rubbing, or they lose their shape.

Fashion Diary: A Day in NYC

Even though we got back from NYC last week, it feels like it was yesterday. I’ve been on the struggle bus getting back into the groove of things every since. My email inbox is still crammed full of unanswered emails, I’m beyond late on responding to blog comments, and you know, all the other things that go with vacations like laundry, cooking, and housecleaning has gone by the wayside. But, I feel like that’s just par for the course when you have a successful vacation. You get home, you’re exhausted, and then you attempt to play catch up for double the time you were away.

Fashion Diary: A Day in NYC

All of that to say we were in NYC for half a week this month and I want to share what we did, what we liked, what we didn’t like, and what I would recommend doing if you happen to be thinking about traveling to the New York City area anytime soon! Today I’m going to be breaking down a day in NYC, so that if you happen to only have about 24 hours in the city, these are the things that I think you should see and do.

5 Great Ways to Up Your Accessorizing Game

As much as I love a little bling in my life, when it comes to figuring out how to accessorize, my style is less is more. Coco Chanel always said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” For me, it’s more about keeping it simple, to begin with. If you have trouble with figuring out how to accessorize or over accessorizing, however, keeping this rule in mind is key.

With that said, learning to accessorize is an art that I think everyone is always looking to master. Every outfit is different, so it can mean playing with a lot of different accessory combos to get it right. The key to the perfect outfit is about balance. If you were wearing a top with a lot of pattern and detail, you would need to balance it out with your selections on the bottom, and the same applies with your accessories.

How to Accessorize in 5 Easy Ways

If you opt to wear many accessories in one place, try keeping it simple somewhere else. Or just go crazy and make a statement all over. Ultimately, the choice for accessorizing is all yours. If, however, you are struggling to figure out how to accessorize, I thought sharing a few of my personal favorites could be helpful!
