How to Incorporate 90s Style into Your #OOTD

Recently, a hip new-to-me band came to town, and Dave wanted to see them. It was a Friday night after work and honestly, I was tired, but I try not to always be an old lady, so I obliged. It turned out to be an all ages show, which when you’re not in your early twenties, means that it’s likely you may be the oldest or second oldest in the room.

If there was one thing that stuck out to me, it was how differently kids these days dress. And yes, I really did say kids these days because they looked so young! The girls seemed to be rocking some sort of mixture between 90s grunge and a rap music video with crop tops that looked like bras, tight Mom jeans, and oversized bomber jackets. Bless their hearts, to be young again. ;)

How to Incorporate 90s Style into Your #OOTD

It got me thinking about how much the 90s trends that I remember teens wearing when I was growing up have come full circle. Seeing it all come back again has me realizing I’m definitely getting older because this is something my mom always said would happen. And now it has. Oy. Regardless, you can either deny it’s existence or embrace it and relive some of your favorite trends from the past while leaving the ones that don’t suit your lifestyle for the younger generation.

Last Minute 90s Costume Ideas to Thrift

You know when you wait until the last minute and then realize you forgot all about Halloween? Well, as a blogger, that definitely doesn’t happen to me anymore, but it used to. I was the queen of the last minute costume almost every year in college, yet somehow I always managed to pull something off. Typically that involved spending a good while at the local thrift store looking for one piece to make a costume out of, which is exactly what I opted to do for my last Halloween costume ideas post of the season! I arrived at my local Value Village with a few 90s costume ideas in mind and let the availability of what I wanted guide me to the final looks.

90s Costume Ideas

The good news? My Value Village had a ton of options for each piece (though admittedly some were better than others) so I’m confident that if you need a costume in a hurry, you’ll be able to find these pieces too. With all the 90s trends back in full force this year (hello chokers, velvet, combat boots, and mom jeans), you know I had to embrace the style of my youth. For this last Halloween costume post, we’re doing it 90s girl power style with three ladies who were fashion icons in their own way. Who am I talking about? Well, you’ll have to read on to find out the three last minute costume ideas I came up with! ;)

How to Wear Cropped Pants All Year Long

Transitional times between seasons is rough. One day it’s sunny, the next you’re shivering all day long. At least that’s how the weather has been in Seattle lately, which means trying to dress adequately for any weather in between has been rough. Last weekend we even were threatened with the “worst storm to hit in 50 years” that fortunately never materialized. When it comes to transitional dressing, I always love to find ways to wear some of my favorites from different seasons all year long. For me, summer brought a culotte obsession, so now it’s all about figuring out how to wear cropped pants all year long.

Today I thought I’d share the easiest trick ever to wearing your cropped pants, be it culottes or otherwise, all throughout the cool months. Sure, you could pack them away and opt to wear full-length pants, but why not give yourself even more options? And even better, you already have this item in your closet.

Rose Suede + Shopbop Sale

As the storm clouds roll in, it feels kind of funny to be sharing an outfit with bare legs and no sleeves. It won’t be long before an outfit like this is only a distant memory from summer. However, this outfit is one of my favorites that I’ve worn recently, and it just so happened to be what I wore to the final day of Bellevue Fashion Week for the Front Row Fashion Show presented by Vogue.

I most definitely look forward to Seattle’s annual fashion events. It’s always fun to see how everyone interprets how to dress for a fashion show. There’s a lot of black, which is why I always opt for a pop of color and an interesting statement piece. (P.S. if you missed my last post, I covered five ways you too can make your own statement at your next fashion event!) Continue reading

5 Halloween Costumes That Are TOTALLY Appropriate for Work

Halloween is one of my absolute favorite holidays. From having an excuse to binge on all the candy and being able to dress up in a creative costume, Halloween is a day I always look forward to. Throughout high school and college, picking out a costume took me months. I’d start planning as early as the summer to be sure I had something unique picked out. When I graduated and began working, I came to the striking realization that no one wears work Halloween costumes.

Being the rebel that I am (well, not really, but bear with me), I still like to come up with a costume that isn’t super out there, but still allows me to have a little fun. I thought I’d share five work appropriate Halloween costumes that won’t cost you a fortune, aren’t super cheesy (well, okay, maybe a little bit), and all the items in these costumes you can wear again and again.
