Menswear Inspired Outfit // Wear to Work #2

Growing up, I never was a tomboy so the entire “menswear inspired” or “borrowed from the boys” trend has always been pretty lost on me. I gravitate towards textures and colors that are inherently feminine. Looking into my closet, you’ll see more grays, pinks, and reds rather than greens and blues. Well, unless you count denim. I have a lotttt of that.

But, if there’s anything I’ve learned from blogging and getting to know my personal style better, it’s that experimentation is always a good thing. You’ll never know what you may discover about yourself when you try something new and different. Sometimes doing something uncomfortable can lead to new and better things. Or not, but that’s the joy of trying something new. You learn what you like, what you don’t, and why.

Winter Work Outfits // Wear to Work #1

As I was reflecting on content I’ve created over the past year or two here on the blog, I began to see a pattern emerge that while okay for me, may not work for everyone else. And as much as I love a good casual outfit, I know that’s not practical for anyone who works in an office or for a business with a dress code. That’s why I thought it was about time I start something new, a wear to work series, mainly focusing in on winter work outfits.

Winter Work Outfits

With winter in full swing here in the Pacific Northwest, I see a lot of boring winter work outfits when walking Downtown to grab lunch. As far as the eye can see, it’s a sea of black suits, outdated, clunky knee high boots, trench coats, and rain slickers. Not inspirational or aspirational, and nothing I have any interest in wearing to work each day.

Stitch Fix January 2017 | Stitch Fix Reviews

Happy New Year! I hope you had a fun finale to the holiday season and were able to ring in the new year with those you love most. Personally, I enjoyed a snuggle in bed with my two favorite boys, watched movies all night, and pigged out on fried chicken and cookies from Trader Joe’s. Yep, party animals. But, I’ll spare you the fascinating the details and get into what you’re really here for: my monthly Stitch Fix review!

It wouldn’t be the beginning of a new month without my usual Stitch Fix post, so here we are! At the end of December, I suffered from a weird virus that manifested itself in horrible, pounding headaches. (Or maybe it was a migraine? No clue. The doctor said it was a virus, though.) That made it really hard for me to blog, let alone get outside and take photos, for days. So, my Stitch Fix sat lonely under my desk through the long Christmas weekend, when I finally remembered a few days later that it had been waiting for me. Oops!

Stitch Fix January 2017 Review

I say all of this because unfortunately, some of these pieces would have been total keepers for me had I opened the box before the holidays. But, since I didn’t, I felt compelled to send them back because I couldn’t foresee a need or occasion for them. Regardless, Bianca did a great job anticipating my needs for the holidays, and if you’re interested in seeing what she sent me then just keep reading!

What to Wear on New Years Eve: Outfit + Makeup // Giveaway!

Can you believe it’s almost 2017?! I don’t know where the time has gone. I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate, and were able to enjoy some time off for the holidays. I’m so happy that I have this week off work, and I’ve been using my time to plan ahead on blogging and vlogging things for 2017. Today I thought I would share what to wear on New Year’s Eve, no matter what you have planned!

What to Wear on New Years Eve

Sweater: Mackenzie Mock Neck Pull Over c/o J.Jill
Skirt: Pleated Gold Skirt via Target {Yes, this is a girl’s skirt. I’m wearing an XL, which fits like woman’s small but could probably also accommodate a medium.}
Bag: Urban Expressions Brooklyn Vegan Leather Clutch via Stitch Fix
Necklace: Kendra Scott Phara Tassel Lariat Necklace
Ring: Kendra Scott Boyd Drusy Ring
Shoes: Xappeal via Rack Room Shoes {similar under $100, similar under $50}

I went shopping a few days before Christmas, and one of my goals was to find a cute metallic skirt for my New Year’s Eve Outfit. Truth be told, we’re not doing anything super crazy for the holiday; our annual tradition is watching a movie while indulging in Ezell’s Fried Chicken. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to get a little dressed up, so I’ll definitely be rocking this cute little skirt and a sweater to keep me cozy. I finally found what I was looking for at Target, in the girl’s section no less! If you can believe it, this is a girl’s size extra large, and it fits perfectly on my petite frame! Continue reading

Winter Party Outfit Ideas

Love getting dressed up but don’t want to scream holidays? I feel you girl. I find that at this time of year, it can be incredibly hard to find much other than overtly Christmas or New Years type of dresses. That is exactly why I wanted to focus today on two winter party outfits that you could wear to any social gathering, on a date night, or even to work (depending on your office dress code, obviously!).

Winter Party Outfits

To start your winter party outfit, the first thing you need to do is identify your outfit’s story. Where will you be going, what will you be doing, and who will you be with? How does your outfit play a role in each of these answers? For example, if you’re going to be hitting happy hour and then going shopping for a girl’s night out, perhaps a pair of heels isn’t the best choice, and instead, you should stick to chic flat boot or a pair of ballet flats. Or, if you’re taking a weekend adventure up to the mountains but need an outfit to wear for a nice dinner, perhaps a warm coat is essential.
