Valentine’s Day Date Ideas + What to Wear for Couples

Figuring out something to do for Valentine’s Day is always a challenge. If the holiday falls on a weekday, it’s hard to feel motivated to want to do something special with your significant other. If it falls on a weekend, getting reservations at your favorite restaurant can be a straight up nightmare.

The thing is, though, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a cause of stress or cost an enormous amount of money to celebrate. In fact, while it’s a holiday to enjoy, it ranks low on the list of things I worry about. Why? Because to me, Valentine’s Day is more about celebrating the company you keep (whether that’s your significant other, or if you’re single, your gal pals for Galentine’s Day) then it is about making a big gesture or doing something incredibly romantic.

15 Fun Valentines Day Date Ideas for Couples

For us, Valentine’s Day ends up being a fairly casual holiday. We typically don’t get too dressed up (mostly because my birthday is right around the same time, so we’ve recently done a fancier dinner and date night out). When I was brainstorming ideas for Valentines Day posts, I knew I wanted to challenge myself to style both Dave and I. After popping over to our local Fred Meyer; I had several outfit selections for Dave to approve or reject. Both entire outfits came to about $150 each (that includes shoes also!). Once we were in our new Valentines Day outfits, it was just time to figure out what exactly we were going to be doing in them!

Dressing for a Creative Office // Wear to Work #4

To conclude my wear to work series this month, I wanted to cover the one type of office I dress for on a daily basis: the creative office. If you’re new around here, you may not know that I work for a small tech start-up in Seattle as a designer by day. For me, these rules (or rather lack of them) is what I abide by.

Dressing for a Creative Office

I remember when I was interviewing for jobs post-graduation, the one thing I was most worried about was finding a culture fit when it came to my wardrobe. Several places I had applied for had strict dress codes, and for someone who’s grown up in Seattle and is used to casual everything, it became evident to me that those places wouldn’t be a good fit. My favorite responses included things like “what dress code?” because if it’s not obvious based on the topic of my blog, personal style is kind of important to me. ;) Today I thought I’d share some of my tips and tricks for what I’ve learned about dressing for a creative office!

Incorporate Your Personal Style into Your Work Wardrobe // Wear to Work #3 + Giveaway!

When I think workwear, I immediately think traditional. And with that comes wanting to stand out. I think the biggest aversion I have to traditional wear to work looks is the lack of personality. I’m sure you know what I mean; work outfits can become quite formulaic, with little choice in color (predominately black, white, gray, and navy) and limited pattern options.

How to Add Your Personal Flair to an Outfit // Hello Rigby Seattle Fashion BlogFortunately for me, my career path doesn’t force me into owning a traditional work wardrobe, but that doesn’t mean that I completely avoid those options in my closet. I definitely have my share of button ups, knee-length skirts and dresses, and trouser pants. What I do with them, however, is infuse my personal style into the outfits I create with them to prevent them from looking stodgy or corporate.

What I’m Wearing

Coat: Vintage Velvet Coat, Thrifted from Value Village {similar under $100, similar under $200}
Dress: Free People Retro Love Dress {similar style under $35, similar style under $60}

Cocktail Ring: Vintage, Thrifted from Seattle Goodwill {similar under $20}

2 Ways to Turn Your Workout Clothes into an Athleisure Outfit

It’s no secret that New Years is often a time of reflection, a realization that you met none of your goals in the previous year (or maybe that’s just me) and you resolve to do better in the year ahead. Last year, it meant setting anti-resolutions, as I felt myself getting caught up in a lot of FOMO and trying to do all the things. This year, I’ve opted to do nothing. I have no goals this year and that’s just fine with me.

How to Wear the Athleisure Trend // Hello Rigby Seattle Fashion BlogDisclosure: This post was created in partnership with Fred Meyer. Thanks so much for supporting the brands who help support this blog!

I’ve learned that making plans sets the stage for disappointment. Last year, in the course of a month or so, we got the crazy idea to list the condo for sale and start looking for a house. Truth be told, I thought we would be in a house right now. We are not, and I’ve learned that not everything works out when you think it will. And also that house hunting sucks. I’m not sure why I thought it would be fun, but it is not.
