New In // April Beauty Boxes (Boxycharm, 3BB, Walmart, Julep Maven)

Affiliate Links // The 3B Beauty Box was provided for review. However, I paid for the other subscriptions.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a full review of any sort of subscription box, but I thought it was about time to talk about what’s new in beauty boxes (for me anyway). You may recall a few months ago I gave up Ipsy and Birchbox. I had been overwhelmed with samples and found that the quality of the samples I was receiving just wasn’t there anymore. I’ve still seen some people get some pretty awesome things from them, so perhaps my luck had just run out.

Either way, the search began for something to quench my thirst for beauty samples. I’m a beauty junkie. The latest products? I want them all! I have so much fun trying them out and sharing them as I find the true winners.

April Beauty Box Unboxing & First Impressions: Boxycharm, Beauty Beyond Borders 3B Beauty Box, Julep Maven, & Walmart Spring

This is why I thought I’d share a few new-to-me beauty subscriptions. After hearing about Boxycharm for months, I decided to give it a try. I also received a Beauty Beyond Borders subscription from the company to try, which was so sweet of them! I’m still a newbie to Korean beauty and skincare and love having someone else select the products for me. Finally, my old favorites, the Walmart Spring Beauty Box and Julep Maven both arrived in April too.

The Recipe for the Perfect Faux Glow

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #MyJergensGlow #CollectiveBias

I was young; I was dumb. All of my friends did it. To me, statistics were just numbers. It didn’t mean anything bad could happen to me. And I’ve been very lucky that it hasn’t, but to a lot of women my age or even younger, tanning has led them down the difficult path of malignant melanoma and skin cancer.

A few years after those high school tanning experiences, I noticed a mole changing. It had gotten larger, changed color, and the edges were quite jagged. It was larger than the size of a pencil eraser, and I freaked out. A biopsy revealed that it was benign, and I was relieved. Not long after that, I found a new mole that was very strange looking. That one was abnormal, but fortunately not the malignant kind. It was at that dermatologist’s office that I learned the absolute worst time for sun exposure is in the developing years, and how bad of an idea tanning beds are.

The Easiest Fake Tan Routine with Jergens Natural Glow // Hello Rigby Seattle Beauty & Style Blog

While I was in college, I opted to go for the faux glow instead. It wasn’t long after that I discovered  JERGENS® Natural Glow®. I diligently applied it at night and got the same look that I did when I was laying in a tanning bed. Not only are fake tanning products much less expensive and time-consuming, but they’re also much safer. Not only can sun exposure lead to cancer, but it also can cause premature aging and wrinkling, which let’s be real, no one wants.

ColourPop Review + Giveaway

Nothing to disclose, I purchased all of the products myself + there are no affiliate links here! ;)

If you’re into makeup, there’s no doubt you’ve heard all about ColourPop. It’s taking the internet by storm and for good reason. The products are reasonably priced, they’re consistently expanding their collection, they collaborate with popular YouTubers and celebrities, and they keep up with the trends. (Matte liquid lipsticks, anyone? Dupes for Kylie Jenner’s lip kits? Take your pick; they’ve got them!)

ColourPop Review

I’ve been hoarding my ColourPop goodies for far too long and figured it was about time to collect my thoughts and share what I think is worth buying and what’s not from ColourPop. To be perfectly honest, I don’t have many complaints. My first order with ColourPop was back in October around their birthday. They included a free eyeshadow in that order in celebration, which meant I did have to wait a little longer than normal for it to ship. I get the gist that they’re a pretty small company (or were previously, perhaps they’ve ramped up recently) and got behind on fulfilling orders because of demand.

Honest Beauty Review + Demo

Referral Links: I may receive a credit on my next order if you sign up through my link. I purchased these products myself for this Honest Beauty review.

Several years ago, I joined the Honest Company Bundle program, and I’ve never looked at household cleaners the same. They just show up every couple of months to my door; I know that they’re going to be safe to use in our home, and I’m a happy camper. When I heard rumblings that Honest Company was going to be coming out with a cosmetics line, I was super stoked. Even though the majority of the makeup I wear is not green/natural/organic, I’m always looking for healthier options to try.

When Honest Beauty was released, I honestly didn’t see much about it. Slowly, I started seeing bloggers and vloggers picking up the line and giving a nod to certain products, so I decided to place my order. Honest Beauty offers a bundle subscription program. For $50 per bundle, you will receive three makeup or skincare products. Want more? Add items to your bundle for an additional 25% off discount.

I also had the benefit of receiving a few items in the winter Zoe Report Box of Style, so I already had an idea that the products weren’t completely awful when I placed my first bundle order. I opted to start with the trial membership first, which signs you up for a small makeup bag filled with skincare samples for the cost of shipping ($5.95). Honest Beauty has you select your skin type (oily or dry) and sends you slightly different products accordingly.

Once I received those items, I had about a week to cancel my bundle before it auto renewed and shipped me my first $50 bundle. I added an extra item to receive the 25% discount since I wasn’t sure how long it would be until I needed to order another bundle. (If I decide I don’t need a bundle of either Honest Beauty or Essentials, I just push out my ship date as late as possible. They send email reminders a few days before they ship your items.) So, now that you know all about The Honest Company and how it works, let’s get into the full Honest Beauty review and see if this line is worth the spend or not. (P.S. if you’re more of a visual person, you might like the demo video! Skip to it here.)

Spring Skincare Routine

Sponsored Post: I was selected to try and honestly review Paula’s Choice through Pretty in My Pocket. All opinions are my own, of course!

Paula’s Choice Skincare is nothing new to me. I first heard about Paula’s Choice a few years ago after stumbling across Beautypedia. I was deep in the obsession of cleaning up my beauty routine and was chucking lipsticks with any nefarious sounding ingredient left and right. I’ve since lightened my stance on what makes the cut or not, but Paula’s Choice Skincare (and makeup; their foundation is great too!) has always had good ingredients and really worked.

Many of you know my skin struggles. Not long after starting my blog, my skin reverted to a second puberty and I had terrible cystic acne along my jaw and upper neck area. I felt bad about myself. I didn’t enjoy looking in the mirror and makeup became a crutch and was no longer fun. It even affected the way I dressed; I started to wear high necklines and scarves to hide the deep rooted acne. It hurt my self-esteem and I wasn’t a very nice person to those around me because I was feeling low.

Paula’s Choice Review: Spring Skincare Routine

I honestly don’t know what turned my skin around other than being kinder to it. I had thrown a number of lotions and potions in an effort to dry up the acne, but it only left my skin even angrier. I then started moisturizing more and caring for my skin as if it were dry (which it was) and the oil production slowed and I’ve since only battled one monthly crater. (Hormone problems, am I right?!)
