The weather has yet to make up its mind whether March is going to be more winter weather or if spring is on the horizon. Call me confused when one day we’re greeted with the sun and beautiful blue skies and the next day there’s snow on the ground. It’s times like these that my outfits from day to day seem like I’m dressing for two completely different climates, and that’s probably because I am!
During this awkward time between winter and spring, I find my wardrobe to be in limbo. I’m hesitant to wear skirts and dresses without tights for fear of freezing to death and pulling out some of my spring favorites like denim jackets and shirts, pastels, and light materials seem too soon.

Casual Spring Outfit Ideas
I bit the bullet this weekend and opted to combine all of my spring favorites into one casual outfit perfect for coffee with a friend, imbibing a donut craving, and of course snapping some photos to document said outfit. From floral sneakers to denim jackets and pastels, here are some casual outfit essentials I’m looking forward to this Spring!
What I’m Wearing
Denim Jacket: Levi’s Ex-Boyfriend Jacket
Shirt: J. Jill Mixed Stripes Shirttail Tunic, c/o
Denim: Just Black Denim Skinny Jean via Stitch Fix February 2017
Slip ons: Vans Vintage Floral
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff LOVE Crossbody {similar under $75, under $50}
Pins: Georgia Perry Lips & Lipstick
Floral everything
Yes, I know everyone, and their mom wears florals for spring, but it’s for a good reason. Florals are a neutral, they add interest to an otherwise simple garment, and just make a lot of people happy! I wear florals year round, but I dig out my lighter colored pieces for spring especially. If you’re not big into allover floral prints, try adding them via an accessory. A shoe, bag, or detail on a jacket is a great option. Of course, I’m a fan of floral everything, so I’ve linked a few dress and top favorites below too!
Denim jackets & shirts
Denim is critical for any transitional wardrobe, and I find myself wearing jeans almost every single day as of late. They’re a safe pick when it snows one day and is in the 50s and sunny the next. You just never know with crazy weather, and jeans will keep your legs warm while still looking on trend. I’m wearing a pair of black jeans in this outfit, but my Levi’s Trucker Jacket keeps the look feeling fresh and spring-y. If your weather is even milder than mine, opt for a lightweight denim shirt!
Pastels
Is there anything that screams spring more than the colors? When the sun peeks through the clouds, I immediately begin to crave all the light colors. Pastels are trending this spring, and I’m especially loving blush pink, baby blue, and a little dash of yellow. I find the easiest way to add pastels into your wardrobe is through classic pieces, like this striped button up, or through accessories like a handbag.
Quirky accessories
Denim jackets are a staple, but I’ll admit they can be a bit bland. The corner of any collar can be jazzed up with a little pin! The pins from Georgia Perry at Shopbop are some of my favorites. Who can say no to a cute lipstick, lips, or even Karl Lagerfeld pin?! Not this girl.
Velvet Revival
If it’s a texture you love, then opt for velvet! It’s beautiful, soft, and luxurious without breaking the bank. I am loving velvet accessories, like this Rebecca Minkoff LOVE Crossbody. However, a velvet dress or jacket can be stunning! The other great thing about velvet is that it can be dressed up or down, making it a wardrobe basic for anyone.
Best of all, my spring suggestions and favorites are already on sale! One of my favorite online retailers, Shopbop, is having its semi-annual sale. When you spend $250 or more, you’ll save 15%. Spend $500 and save 20%, or spend $800 and save 25%! Some of my absolute favorite wardrobe pieces ever came from Shopbop, and I’ve linked those below as well. Hurry, because this sale ends on 3/4 at 4 am EST. Happy Shopping!
How are you transitioning your outfits from winter to spring? Have you shopped the Shopbop sale already? Would love to know what you picked up in the comments too! ;)
Ugh, I cringe at the notion of shopping, but your outfit looks adorable. And yup, florals in the spring. You just gotta do it;)
Aw thanks Maria! Spring is for floral, glad you agree! ;)
Love everything about this look, especially the denim jacket and the adorable shoes!
Thanks so much, Christine! :)
this is the perfect combo of pieces for when the weather is crazy – you can always ditch the jacket and roll up the jeans if you get too warm.
have a great weekend!

So true! Lately, it’s been so cold again, I’m so looking forward to getting too warm, haha. Hope you have a great weekend too! :)
Love your look! I’m a jewelry designer and would love to send you free jewelry if you will feature it on Instagram and or your blog!
Hi Alisha! Thanks so much for thinking of me! I’d love to chat more about working together. Feel free to shoot me an email and we can chat. :)
Love this because this is like my everyday uniform! I’ve started to wear my denims again, and put away my winter coats (not that it snows around here lol). I’m not entirely excited for summer heat, but I’m embracing the warmer-ish weather. :)
Thanks Jae! Ah man, we had snow flurries this morning! I wish I could put our coats away and bring out my spring/summer stuff! Sigh. Hopefully soon! ;)
Great post. I think I have been most excited the last two years about velvet’s comeback, and I think it is very easy to work into this in-between time too! Thank you for sharing!
