Stitch Fix April 2015

I decided to start receiving Stitch Fixes back in February after seeing some really cute clothes people were receiving. To me, it seems like they’ve stepped up their game in terms of supporting different styles other than a lot of the “mom” type button ups, drapey knit tees, and cardigans I had been seeing over and over. There’s nothing wrong with that, it just wasn’t what I was looking for.

Since my last Fix was pretty successful, I figured I’d try another one. I learned from my last Fix that pinning directly from their Polyvore account as well as keeping my fashion board full of looks that I liked really helps. I also left a few suggestions this month for my stylist, Kimberly, on what I’d like to see. I asked for boyfriend jeans or deconstructed skinny jeans. While they do their best to accommodate, they don’t always have the inventory of every item you may see in your size, so she did her best.

Stitch Fix April 2015

Stitch Fix April 2015: Swee Rain Palma Cardigan / hellorigby seattle fashion and lifestyle blogSweet Rain Palma Cardigan in Peach, Size Small, $48 – Kept
I had pinned this from their Polyvore fairly recently after loving the fringe. The color is something I don’t really have much of in my closet, but I think it’s neutral enough to go with a lot of spring pieces. I could see pairing this with light wash denim and a white tee.
P.S. If you like this cardigan, I found the a very similar one at Forever 21, this one comes in the peach color above as well as beige! I’ve asked StitchFix if they will price match… will update when I hear back!
*Update: Stitch Fix declined the price match, stating that though similar, this is not the same cardigan. I can’t compare since I haven’t seen the Forever 21 version, but will take their word for it.

Stitch Fix April 2015: Dear John Kyleigh Straight Leg Jean / hellorigby seattle fashion and lifestyle blogDear John Kyleigh Straight Leg Jean, Size 27, $78 – Returned
While I think the cut and length of these was good (I loosely cuffed them for style, not because they were too long), they felt like the type of jeans that would stretch out way too much throughout the day and end up being too big. I’ve had this same issue with a lot of jeans, and it just drives me crazy. Plus, something about the whiskering and back pocket stitching bothered me.

Stitch Fix April 2015: Papermoon Crissy Spacedye Cross Back Knit Shirt / hellorigby seattle fashion and lifestyle blogPapermoon Crissy Spacedye Cross-Back Knit Shirt, Size Small, $44 – Returned
This tee was actually pretty cute and fit nicely. I should have taken a photo of the back, which had criss-cross straps and was a bit open. The thing I didn’t like was the pocket, which accentuates my boobs and just isn’t my favorite place to draw attention. For $44, I just didn’t love it that much.

Stitch Fix April 2015: Bay to Baubles Aditi Spade Earrings in Gold / hellorigby seattle fashion and lifestyle blogBay to Baubles Aditi Spade Earrings in Gold, $28 – Returned
While pretty, these are a little too delicate and the shape isn’t really my taste. I didn’t really love the necklace from last month either for the same reason (the shape) and I’m not really sure what kind of jewelry I want to receive from Stitch Fix since I never see it on their Polyvore. I think before I receive my next fix I’ll do a little research and pin from other people’s fixes.

Stitch Fix April 2015: Kut from the Kloth Troy Drape Vest / hellorigby seattle fashion and lifestyle blogKut from the Kloth Troy Drape Vest in Green, Size Small, $88 – Returned
I requested this piece after seeing these “fishermen” or “military” style vests making the rounds for spring. I don’t know… I just don’t think this is for me. I think it’s really cute on other people, but like those puffy Houndstooth vests that were popular from J. Crew in the winter, I think this is another trend I will not be rocking.

For a point of reference, if I had kept everything in this month’s shipment, it would have been $169 with 25% discount. I actually thought that was a pretty great value considering having a couple of pricier pieces in the shipment (vest and jeans). The only thing I was bummed about is not seeing a dress again this month! I’ll be asking for one next shipment.

If you’re interested in signing up for Stitch Fix, I’d love you forever if you used my affiliate link to help me bring more reviews like this to you! :)

What do you think about what I got? Did I send back a winner? I’d love to hear your thoughts! :)

I’ve seen a few pieces that I’ve liked, but not so much lately. Maybe their jewelry partners have changed, but Cat did mention that she’s liked some of what she’s got so maybe I’m just not providing them enough style references! Will try again next Fix. :)

I really like the cardigan and the white top, but I can understand why you sent it back. And I know the black wedges aren’t StitchFix, but they’re super cute.

Thanks Breenah! The wedges are from Target! I always wear them in these posts since they basically go with anything! ;)

I actually really like that top but the pocket but that is probably just a preference thing. I’m weird, I love little pockets on the front. Maybe it’s because I don’t really have much to accentuate in that department ;-) LOL! That peach cardigan is really pretty, I hope they price match for you. That would be awesome

Unfortunately no price match for me – they said it wasn’t the exact same cardigan. It looks like the F21 version may be longer, but it’s hard to tell from a photo. Oh well!

I definitely prefer the drape style rather than cargo… I think this one may have just been not right for me. I’ll have to try some on in store next!

Wow, I think most of these are actually pretty cute! Sure, some of the prices are a bit much or maybe you feel they aren’t right for your body type, but the styles are all pretty adorable.

I found that they were also not doing a great job with my jewelry either, so I ended up putting together an entire Pinterest board to send to my stylist just of jewelry I liked from Modcloth and other places. In my next box, the piece of jewelry she sent me was without question my favorite thing in there! Maybe give that a try?

      Thanks Cat! I agree.

And that’s a great idea! I’ll have to do a better job of pinning jewelry that I like. I’m going to go have a peek at yours :P

I love that fringe sweater too– hopefully they can price match since it does look like the exact same thing! Do you get any input into the type of pieces you receive in each shipment or is it always just a random assortment based on what they have in your size?

Yes! After you schedule your fix there is a notes section where you can leave details for your stylist. Kimberly is mine, and she always reads my notes and tries to pick something that corresponds to what I asked for (I asked for boyfriend jeans, she sent me the straight leg jeans). It doesn’t always end up working out due to fit, but I definitely think they do their best to listen to what you’ve asked for. Linking to a Pinterest board really helps too, and I’ve found that pinning from their Polyvore account (http://hanger731x.polyvore.com/) of items I like will result in a few things (like the sweater and the vest this month) that you’ve asked for if they’re available in your size!

Thanks for visiting my blog..I love that bohemian shirt with the turquoise..so cute!

I am just curious..I haven’t done any affiliate marketing yet, want to. My blog has had 7300 views so far not sure on follows. Do you approach the brands…or they you? I’ve done some collaboration with a few. Thanks!

      Thanks Valerie!

I don’t approach brands, I don’t really have the time to do it to be honest! I have a full-time job outside of this blog, and I can barely keep up with everything as it is. ;) I use affiliate links for my fashion posts through ShopStyle. This post is a little different – I pay to receive StitchFix, but use a referral link so if someone signs up, I get a small amount back. I use that commission to offset the purchases I make for the blog. If you have any other questions you can always email me! :)

Yes and no. So how it works is you sign up, fill out a style profile, and then schedule a shipment. When they ship your items to you, they charge you a $20 styling fee, but if you keep anything from your shipment, they subtract $20. Shipping to and from Stitch Fix is free as well, so unless your first fix is a total bust, you generally won’t pay anything other than what you decide to keep. :)

Thanks Becca! The tee is really cute. When I was editing the photos I was like “hmm, maybe I should have kept it!” Oh well, too late now! :P

I’ve heard complaints from a friend that her stylist(s) were no longer being very good and sending her stuff that she’d already rejected months before. She’s in a wait-and-see pattern. I think you made the right decisions and I hope you can get a price match on that first sweater!

    1. Jenn Post author

Thanks Lisa! Unfortunately they declined the price match, stating that the sweater was not the exact same cut. Since I haven’t seen the Forever 21 version, I’ll take their word for it, I guess! Bummer about your friend’s stylists, I have heard that some are definitely better than others. :(

Do you know how their sizing runs? Small-large in tops? In pants/ jeans? I’d like to at least give it a whirl but not sure if anything would fit. I usually wear a L/ XL in tops and a 14/16 in jeans.

They carry a couple of different brands – some are their own, and some are not. I’d say they run true to size for the most part. I typically wear a 2/4 in pants and a small/4 in tops (I’m on the busty side for my size) at places like Ann Taylor, LOFT, Banana Republic, Gap, and Old Navy. I haven’t had anything be too small, generally I find it to be cut true to size or a little on the larger side on some of the more “flowy” tops and dresses. Hope that helps!

those earrings are pretty cute, but if i had received them i wouldn’t have kept them either! i didn’t know stitch fix had their own polyvore, i’ll have to check it out. and $169 is pretty good value, but if you don’t love everything, it’s not worth it!

The first outfit is my favorite. I love the color combo, the graphic print, and that sweater is dreamy. I’m glad you kept it! I did Le Tote awhile back, but cancelled it to save money. I might go back at some point. These services are so fun!

Thanks Lindsay! I like it too, and will probably be repeating it in the coming weeks as it warms up a teeny bit more! I loved Le Tote. I’m thinking of restarting my subscription with them at some point too – I liked how easy it was to mix their pieces into my wardrobe and it felt like “shopping” without the expense!

That’s the same necklace I got in my last fix. I liked it, but I’m honestly not a big chevron fan so I sent it back. I think I just need to pin more jewelry that is my style before my next fix!
