Happy Friday! I’m so excited to have today off to make a super long weekend. Yay! We very rarely get additional days off at my work, so I’m pretty pumped to get a freebie like this, especially when we already have a holiday coming up. Anyways, I thought I’d share 5 things I’ve been digging this week to start off the weekend.
1 / Lovely Letters
Last month I signed up to be part of a pen pal swap called Lovely Letters on Esther & Jacob! I got paired with Katrina, who blogs on a super cute food blog called Table For Two, Please. Here’s what she sent me:
– Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Cookies – Rigby loved these!
– Dog Cookie Recipe
– Homemade Bookmark – so cute!
– Lovely Letter
…Thanks Katrina!
2 / But First Coffee Mug Swap
I also signed up for a mug swap on But First, Coffee and got paired with Jamie of SnapGinger! She sent me this super cute #ShibaInu mug! Love it, obviously.
3 / Links I’m Loving
I thought I’d share a few links I’ve loved this week:
– Melissa of Daily Chaos shared why being ‘blog famous’ isn’t for her
– CoSchedule wrote this great article about emotional headlines
– Love this round-up of places for petite ladies to shop from Racked
– Julep posted a recap of the Blue Nile Sparkle event I attended
– Don’t miss out on your chance to win $100 to Lululemon or $300 PayPal cash!
– Kristen of See You In a Porridge shared her thoughts on the mean comments that are way too common on the internet
4 / Weekend Plans
… I have none and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m going to be catching up on blog reading, book reading, make some face lifts to the blog that have been on my to-do list, and catch up on household chores (ew, but necessary). What are you up to this weekend?
5 / Labor Day Sales
So my budget is basically screwed for September. I may or may not have found a few awesome Labor Day Sales. Here are the ones I’ve shopped so far:
– Nordstrom is running 40% off a tons of things. I picked up this military-inspired coat, I’m going to try to find these slip ons in my size in store, and I grabbed this cropped blouse.
– Sole Society is running a 70% off sale. These block heels got great reviews (comfortable 3″+ heels, yes please!) and they’re less than $25! Sold.
– Old Navy has a huge labor day sale going on, with items starting at just a few bucks, like this pencil skirt for $6, this dress for $6, and these graphic tees for $6. Insanity.
– Rag and Bone is normally way out of my price range, but they’re running an insane sale on their Classic Newbury Booties for more than half off… $250! Someone talk me out of these.
Hope everyone has a fabulous long weekend, and I’d love to hear what you’re going to be up to this week in the comments! :)
So cute! Love the pen pal idea. And that mug is perfect! ;)
Thanks Maryann!
yay!! that’s such a sweet touch to send handmade doggie cookies. I love that mug and mug swap idea too!
I know, Katrina was so sweet to send us cookies. Thanks for organizing a great swap, Esther!
Labor day sales are the best! That is, right after a relaxing 3 day weekend!
Totally agreed! Hope you got some good stuff, Camille!
I can’t wait to shop all of the Labor Day sales this weekend! :)
Hope you got some great stuff, Olya!
That’s so sweet your lovely letter partner gave you homemade dog cookie and the recipe to go with it! I heard about the mug swap after it was done and thought that was a cool idea. Also love the links you shared. Haha i feel you on the budget. I saw Nordstrom was having a sale and was debating about buying something from there even though I just bought a dress when they had the anniversary sale. haha …
I know right? So sweet! Haha, Nordstrom sales always get me.
Ah, I love the pen pal swap, do you know if they are still doing it? I’m probably too late, dang it!
Esther is still taking sign ups for September! http://www.estherandjacob.com/lovely-letters-sign-up-sept-pen-pal/
That mug is awesome! Love your swaps :)
Thanks Chelsea!
Oh my goodness how adorable of a shot!! I’m obsessed with shiba’s and want one so bad! So not gonna lie I always love when you post photos of little Rigby :)
Haha, I am glad to hear that. I hope to have a few more dog posts in the future, and obviously he’s all over my Instagram. ;)
Step awaaaaay from the labor day sales.
Oh, hell, just buy everything.
Ummm yeah, I totally did. Bye bye, budget.
OMG I love the idea of pen pals. SO much fun.And thansk for all those links. THat Co-schedule one is awesome!!! Great post!!
Thanks Jamie! Glad you found a useful link :)
I can’t wait to get my mug! I’m SO glad Rigby loves his! Uh, I mean yours! ;) Thanks for the sale links. Slash, not really.
HAHA, sorry! Not really though. Have you not gotten your mug yet?! It says delivered at 5:09pm today! Go check your mail!
Hahahaha SO bad! I will be able to check tomorrow, enjoying the shore for now! :)
Your dog with that mug! So pretty.
I’m not shopping any time soon but after, how long has it been since my last (tiny under 50€) shopping spree? Eight months? And generally not having money ever I’m pretty used to it. Plus it’s great that I can get stuff sent for my blog now. Need to keep pushing that. It’s not greediness, it’s necessity.
I’ve got a shoot with a blogger tomorrow afternoon and I may be meeting a jewelry maker at an open call thing at Liberty London (which I’d never heard of before she mentioned it. It’s a wonder I’m even familiar with Harrods, honestly). Then I’ve got a couple of design deadlines. Lots more work but I’m moving on Monday morning to a place with a desk and chair and I’m equal parts excited and terrified that it’s going to fall through, to the point that the emotions cancel each other out. But I’ve got a tenancy agreement and the money for my first payment!!!! *figuratively bites nails* Only thing up in the air is whether someone will be able to help me move with their car or I’ll have to walk my shit over there in two or three trips. Walking distance, but luggage is always a major pain. Even though I’ve managed to stay light, much to my current landlady/host family woman’s chagrin. She actually took away my towel. Like, if the reasons I only brought a hair towel with me still stand, and you know I didn’t have money to fucking eat when I was trying to pay you, and the towel was behind the door like I always put it when in use, why would you think I’d have got a new one? Why would I get a new one shipped here when I’m moving in a week?
I need to stop making an effort not to drip on her floors. It’s her damn fault if I do. Wish I were shameless enough to walk back from the bathroom naked tbh.
/Longass 3 am comment oops. And typed on my phone so probs riddled with typos. Soz.
Thanks Lix!
Sounds like you had a crazy busy weekend! I hope things went well :) Your current land lady sounds like a trip, I hope she’s not taken anymore of your stuff! :(
I really love the pen pal idea. I bet it is so fun to get goodies in the mail from other places!
It was so much fun!
I just love that Rigby gets stuff. I’m avoiding the sales, must not spend money.
Good for you, Karissa! Some of your no-spend determination needs to rub off on me!
I have my boys in pen pal programs – but I would LOVE to be in a mommy one! :D
I have 3 boys registered in homeschool pen pal groups – but I would LOVE to be in a mommy one! :D
Great idea – I highly recommend joining Lovely Letters! :)
Oh, yeah. There are SO many good sales this weekend! And I’m just going to hide my wallet..
Haha, that is a good idea. Hope you successfully avoided temptation!
I love esther’s pen pal swaps I enjoyed both my treats for july and august so excited for september
I wish I could participate this month, but I’m out of town the week before (and during) the ship date! Bummer.
I love labor day sales! These pen pal programs are so cool.
Me too, both are fun! :)
I love the mug! Also, weekends with no plans are the best! I feel like this summer has been packed for me, so I don’t have any plans–other than reading–this weekend!
Thanks, me too! Like you, I also caught up on some reading… though not as much as I would have liked!
Oooh I want to know where Jamie got that mug for you, from!
It’s from a place called Knick Knack Gifts! I believe they sell on Amazon :)
Aww, Rigby got peanut butter cookies? My dogs love it when I make them treats! They feel like they are breaking the rules when they eat them. It looks like Rigby likes the mug, too! Maybe you can find a recipe for hot cocoa for dogs!
Oh that’s a great idea! We have a doggie smoothie recipe, I’m sure there’s a cold-weather drink that we could make too!
The penpal idea is so cool! I should sign up :)
Definitely, it was a lot of fun!
The dog biscuits are the sweetest thing ever, such a nice touch :-)
I know right? Loved them (but not more than Rigby, haha!)
We’ve just been relaxing at home as well. it’s been lovely. Fishing tomorrow with our families. Hope you’re enjoying yours! XO
Sounds like a great way to spend a weekend – hope it was a good one!
I can’t get over how cute your dog is :) Labor day sales sound fun!
Aw, thank you Alicia!
Yay to no weekend plans. Im catchin up on blog reading as well!
Yay to us for catching up! :)
aside from the dentist and specialty chiropractor appointments I have scheduled for thursday, I am hoping to meet up with a few friends this week, and just might, maybe, might, go shopping tomorrow…. probably shouldn’t because of money, but i might not be able to resist the urge… =)
It’s so hard to resist the shopping urge! Hope you had a lovely weekend, Laura!
I hope you have a lovely weekend. I will be reading blogs as well
Thanks Aleshea, same to you! :)
I love the idea of having blog pen pals…that sounds really cool! By the way, your dog looks super cute! Thanks for a great post!
Aw, thank you Ashling!
a pen pal swap sounds like a lot of fun!
It was a ton of fun! :)
Not having weekend plans is always the best!
Agreed! Hope you had a good weekend!
Love that Shiba mug!! Too cute :D I am totally signing up for the penpal swap next month!
Thanks Rebekah! Excited to see what you get in your swap :)
I enjoy doing swaps, you get to meet new people and hear a bit of their story which is always nice. I spent my Labor day weekend relaxing, doing household chores while having a marathon of Dawson’s Creek, a show I never seen before. It was nice to chill like that.
I usually shop Labor Day weekend, I had so many deals in my inbox but took advantage of none of them this year. Labor day weekend caught me by surprise so I didn’t plan ahead to be able to do some extensive shopping.
That sounds like a fun weekend! We started The Killing on Netflix and are thoroughly addicted. Good for you for avoiding the Labor Day sales! I was not so good this year…
aw thanks so much for the shout out girl! how cute is that mug? oh the sales were so good this weekend and i avoided them all, go me! lol
Wow, that’s impressive! Great job girl!
The lovely letters sounds like such a great idea! Also love not having plans on the weekends as then you can get to do all the things you have been meaning to do! Hope you had a great one :)
I did, thanks Cantara! Hoping you had a great weekend too!
