Stitch Fix Review – June 2014

So, I got a Stitch Fix delivered at the end of last month. I ended up with a $20 credit from Klout, and I figured why not give it another go. I first heard of Stitch Fix through PopSugar Must Have many months ago, and got a free credit to try it. My first fix arrived in November, and while I liked the idea of some of the items, I only kept one. I loved the top I kept, but it shrunk like crazy after washing it once in the cold cycle… so needless to say I wasn’t sure what to expect this time around.

Anyways, I took some outfit photos for you. I apologize that the location is pretty lame, but I have yet to get a tripod so yay, you get to look at the ugly corner of our living room with a dog toy that I didn’t spot. Oops. ;)

41Hawthorn Beatrice Exposed Zipper Dolman Top / Stitch Fix Review / hellorigby!

41Hawthorn Beatrice Exposed Zipper Dolman Top in Black, Size Small / $58
So a couple of things… why a black top in the beginning of summer? Seems like the wrong time of year for this. I think it looks better in the photo than in real life because I had to pull this onto my shoulders, and the bottom hem was way too loose. It actually could pass as a tunic or a tiny dress on me. Returned.

41Hawthorn Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse / Stitch Fix Review / hellorigby!

41Hawthorn Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse in Pink, Size Small / $48
This was the one thing I thought I’d keep after opening the box. Then when I tried it on, realized it’s basically a tunic on me, and really ill-fitting, especially in the arms. Returned.

Renee C Gabe Striped Maxi Skirt / Stitch Fix Review / hellorigby!

Renee C Gabe Striped Maxi Skirt in Blue/Black, Size Small / $48
So, I like the concept of this. In fact, I already own something just like this, which I wore in my very first outfit post. The other thing that bothered me about this was that going down the backside seam, the stripes were totally misaligned. It is made in the USA though, which is cool. Returned.

Gilli Alenna Elastic Waist Dress / Stitch Fix Review / hellorigby!

Gilli Alenna Elastic Waist Dress in Blue, Size Small / $64
The material is super soft and feels like good quality, however, this just looks like a potato sack on me. Elastic waists like this rarely fit me well because I have a short torso, and the length is not right for me either. Some perks? It’s also made in USA. Returned.

Zad Leo Carved Paisley Earrings / Stitch Fix Review / hellorigby!

And finally…
Zad Leo Carved Paisley Earrings / $32
Stitch Fix almost always sends an accessories item. These are just so not my style. I like paisley, but… these are just bizarre. And by now I bet you’re seeing a pattern…Returned.

In case Stitch Fix is new to you, it’s a clothing subscription box and you can schedule fixes every month or just when you want them. You pay $20 for a styling, and you can use that as a credit for keeping an item, or keep the whole box and get the $20 applied + an additional 25% off. I forfeited the fee, but had credit to begin with, so whatever. If you’re interested in signing up, feel free to use my referral link and maybe I’ll try it again. I won’t lie, even if this fix wasn’t my style, it’s still a fun experience.

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. I may receive a commission if you sign up for a Stitch Fix and those small commissions are what keeps the lights on around here. ;) I used a credit provided to me by Klout to receive this box, but all opinions are my own.

Have you ever ordered from Stitch Fix? What did you think?

Yeah, apparently I have the same problem. I guess I thought they’d take my size measurements into a little more consideration. Oh well!

I admit… I’m not wild about any of these choices on you! And none of them seem worth the attached price tag. Which is sad because I LOVE the idea of having someone shop FOR YOU! Sadly, the more I see of these, I become slightly convinced that they don’t put a lot of time and effort into finding an individual’s style — they sure missed mine. Did you keep anything from this bunch or did you just eat the $20 fee?

Totally agree with your point about them not taking style into account at all. I really wanted more bohemian-summery type pieces and instead was sent a bunch of dressier basics. I ate the $20 because it was a free credit, so technically I didn’t lose out on anything. If I had paid for it, I probably would have emailed their CS team.

I love the concept, but so far, everything I have seen from Stitchfix is so….I don’t know…uninspired? The clothes seem so over-priced for items so basic! Will you try them again?

Totally agree, Lena! I’m definitely willing to try them again, maybe a different season like in the fall. I just didn’t feel like these clothes were even right for summer!

The more I read about stitchfix, the more disappointing it seems. Like, maybe if I was a size zero and everything fit and was flattering, it could be cool, but when you need to dress to flatter certain areas more than others, I would prefer to pick out my own clothes!

Even if you were a size zero I think it would be hard because I thought all of the pieces felt a big large for smalls! I think for those who like clothes to fit well, this is probably not a great choice.

I have too which is why its so disappointing! I will probably try again, maybe in the fall because I liked more of the fall items they sent me last year.

Yeah, I agree not knowing what you’re getting is kind of a big risk for clothing! I would definitely recommend trying it at least once though! :)

I just posted a Stitch Fix review as well. lol. I actually really love that maxi skirt on you! But I am the queen of maxi skirts so I love them all. Sorry you didn’t like this box much…. that is always a bummer!!

I like maxi skirts too, but the stripes didn’t line up on the back and I already have something so similar I just couldn’t justify keeping it.

When I first got to the skirt I was excites thinking you finally found something good, but I don’t think I could keep something that doesn’t line up, it would drive me crazy, plus if you already have something similar. It sucks you didn’t get anything good.

Yeah, that was one of the things I thought I’d keep. I almost did, but even for $28 (using the $20 credit) I just couldn’t justify it.

I love the maxi but then again I am not seeing the lines in the back not aligning. That would bug me. I agree with sending them back if you dont like them though why pay so much and settle for things that you just wont use!

Bummer about the skirt, because it looks really cute on you! Even after I asked them not to, they kept sending me that elastic waisty stuff–it’s only flattering on girls with no curves at all. It seems to me that so many of the stuff they send is almost right, but misses the mark in some way. Those first two tops are for someone older than you who is trying to hide their figure–you certainly don’t need either of those things.

And I think the fact that RocksBox rocks so hard at sending awesome jewelry picks makes the Stitch Fix ones even more disappointing.

I’m getting my accidental Fix next week and I’m not even budgeting to keep anything. Now watch, it will have things I loooooove.

I know, it is a bummer because I liked the material and I liked the concept. Oh well.

I’m so curious to see what you get in your fix! I hope you post about it, even if I don’t love mine, I still like seeing what people are getting! :)

Haha, I think its worth trying at least once! I liked my first StitchFix much better than this one. If you do decide to try it, be sure to link them to a Pinterest board of your style.

Thanks for sharing the prices of everything, a lot of people don’t do that when showing their stitch fix items and it’s definitely helpful in making a decision if paying the $20 is worth it! Bummer nothing worked out for you, it’s a fun concept!

Unfortunate that none of the items were something you liked! I can’t wait to sign up for this once I’m back to work, I know it’s really hit and miss but looks so fun!

Sorry to hear that the box was a miss. I like the color of the dress though. And I must admit that I like the earrings, the pattern is beautiful. But it depends so much on your personality what kind of accessories will you like.

The pattern on the earrings is cool, but I thought it would be better suited on something else. They were also rather large, which is hard to tell from the photo, and I prefer smaller earrings.

What a bummer! I just ordered my first box (haven’t gotten it yet) and am a little nervous that they’ll be too steep in price and won’t be my style at all. Hopefully that’s not the case!

I chose “the cheaper the better” for everything and those are the price points they sent me. I didn’t think anything was crazy outrageous, but I also think I could have found similar items that fit better for less elsewhere. Good luck, I hope you get some good stuff!

I had a flop of an experience with StitchFix as well…it’s definitely a fun thing to try, so I’d be up to trying it again if I had a credit, but to lose money on it is a bummer..

I do too. I like Golden Tote better at this point since you get 1 or 2 items you pick out for yourself. I do like Stitch Fix’s concept, just wish what they sent was more in line with my style!

I had never heard of this before but I just saw another blogger update her blog with her July Stitch Fix. I’d love to give this a try but there’s two issues: #1. Even though its only $64 – that’s a lot of money for one item. #2. I’m currently a size 16 so they don’t carry my size. Boo to them and for the rest of the world. i’m happy that you can wear a size small but a majority of the world is not much larger than this. It frustrates me that designers don’t want to support the society they exist in. Oh well. Now that I’m supporting my size, its something I work on and struggle with daily, but even at 8% body fat I was still a size 12. Not too far off from their max size of 14. Something’s gotta give right?

I know, right? It puzzles me, because even my cheap striped maxi skirt from f21 has stripes that line up. why have an obvious back seam if the stripes are totally off?
