A couple of weeks ago, I had a total flashback-deja-vu type moment. I was walking into Alderwood Mall and felt like I’d done this before. I’ve been back to that mall many times since moving away from the area, but for some reason this day took me back to my high school days. Many moons ago, I was a mall worker and felt like I basically lived there. I bet you’ll never guess what my job was in a thousand years. Wait for it….

I was a Certified Bra Fitter at JCPenney. Yes, really.

I had some really, really interesting (okay, awkward) experiences over my few years working there, but overall it was a really great first “real” job. Working at the mall allowed me to flex my shopping muscles (a little too) often, and I met a lot of great friends. Some short term, but some life long friends as well.

But really, I think what set off my flashback moment was the reason I was back at the mall – one of the brands I loved as a little high schooler was hosting an event. Nordstrom and InStyle Magazine were hosting a pop-up featuring the latest collection for Vigoss Jeans. I won’t lie, they haven’t been on my radar much recently. I knew them as a junior’s brand, and remember their contrast stitching and bedazzled pockets fondly. But just like me, Vigoss Jeans have grown up a bit and actually have some really fun styles.

How to wear distressed jeans is a bit out of my comfort zone, but it was fun to style them for the event. I’m also loving their boyfriend styles and their distressed light wash denim jeans. I’ve heard a few of the inseams on some of these are petite-friendly, which is always a plus. I didn’t have a chance to try them all on, but I’m hoping to get back to the mall to try on a few pairs for spring.

Haha, I know right? People love doing that to me too. Between friends and family members I was always shooing someone away so I could work :P

I absolutely adore distressed jeans, but since they’re not office appropriate, it just never makes sense to purchase a pair. These look fab on you, though! I love how you elevated them with some cute boots and gold necklace :)

I love the combo of hard and soft between the top and jeans! Also, obsessed with your booties. And love that your first job was a bra fitter! I bet you have a load of stories from that!

Thanks Annessa! I think that’s what they do best, honestly. They have a huge selection of distressed denim!

I’m a big fan of distressed jeans. Most of the pairs I own are distressed. lol! I actually only have 2 pairs that aren’t….oops! I do need to get more “un-distressed” pairs. Love the way you styled yours! I can’t even imagine how awkward it would be to be a bra fitter. I knew someone that worked at Victoria’s Secret that had to do it and she hated it. lol!

Thanks Julie! These are my only distressed pair other than shorts. Haha! I had a few times where it was really, really awful. They tended to be one of two types: 1. really old and uninhibited (and thus really awkward for me) or 2. really, really demanding and then they didn’t even buy anything. We weren’t on commission, but it still was such a bummer to feel like you did all this work for nothing.

I love this outfit and how funny, I worked in the lingerie department at Macy’s the summer after my first year of college! I wasn’t a certified bra fitter but I had to do it anyway and definitely had some awkward experiences!!

Cute outfit Jenn! I love your booties… are they comfortable? Are you wearing them with an ankle sock or just barefoot?

Thanks Chris! They’re comfortable, but they do have a bit of height so I wouldn’t say they’re comfortable for a ton of walking or for hours and hours on your feet. I wear them with half ankle socks typically, so that you can’t see socks from the top.

That would certainly be a confidence building first job, not for someone shy haha! And it would give you a lot of great tips through your life as well – a wrong fitting bra can cause so many problems!

I really like your distressed jeans – they are so nice with the boots and that statement necklace is stunning with the neckline of your shirt :)
