Think Style Bloggers Are Perfect? Think Again! // 10 Favorite #OOTD Outtakes from 2018

In the spirit of full disclosure, style blogging is far from perfect. It takes a lot of effort to get that perfect outfit capture that you see on Instagram, or here on the blog. In fact, if you go back into my archives, you’ll see my outfit photos weren’t always so glamorous. (And I’d still argue they aren’t today, but they’ve definitely come a long way!)

I used to be terrified to take photos out in public, so I’d make Dave snap a few photos in the backyard of the condo he used to own. As I got more gutsy, I would shoot right outside the condo complex on the sidewalk that ran along a busy street. When I got really brave, I would sometimes have him take photos of me on side streets and alleyways.

The longer I’ve done this, the more confident and comfortable I feel taking photos in public. Honestly, practice makes perfect. The first few times you will do it you might think everyone is looking at you or judging you. The truth is, that most of the time 1. no one is paying any attention, or 2. they are and end up complimenting your outfit or are just curious! It’s pretty rare that I get any hate, but I’d be lying if I said it never happens. Remember this story about the mean shop owner? I’ve had others, too. But the good honestly far outweighs the bad!

Ok, ok. If you’re here just to see the cringe-worthy photos, I’m getting to it, I promise.

I’ll let you see those and give you a true behind the scenes look at the less-than-glamorous shots that happened las year. In no particular order, here are my favorite outtakes from 2018!

Nope, I’m not crying about a bug flying in my Coke. My straw actually fell in! I was able to get it out of the bottle and the shoot continued on. ;)

I picked a busy morning at Pike Place Market to shoot, and I’m sure I was mid-sentence telling Dave how I wanted this photo to look. Or we were waiting for people in the background to clear. One of the two, I’m sure.

Sometimes I try to get movement in my photos, which means moving. And on this occasion, that movement was just a bit too much. Oy.

Behind the big curtain of the perfect Instagram photo reveals… that sometimes I’m not wearing pants. Nope, sometimes I’m actually wearing pajama bottoms. #sorrynotsorry Oh, and that great face? That’s thanks to the bees buzzing right behind me. I’m honestly terrified of them!

Sometimes I smile so much that I forget to actually look at the camera. Or I’m blinking. Whichever. I still think this photo is fairly cute though.

Ah, yes, weather. My favorite to deal with when shooting photos is a nice big gust of wind. Cute, right? :P

Shooting in public places is always interesting. Like this time when a customer decided to abandon their shopping cart full of Pampers diapers right in my shot.

Speaking of shooting in public places… sometimes I fall asleep on the job. Just kidding, this is just a mid-blink shot. ;)

The outfit struggle is real. Making sure my bow is tied properly and is even is important stuff!

Last but not least, getting photobombed is always a hazard of the job. Often, people get so awkward when they see a large camera and think they’re intruding or need to wait for me to finish the photo. It’s easiest for everyone involved if I just step to the side and let you pass by. Sometimes, however, I don’t notice you coming.

Occasionally, however, people have no idea what’s going on. And that’s exactly what happened when I set up my tripod and then this lady came up and started chatting with us. #awkward

Another year, another set of bloopers. I hope you enjoyed seeing the less glamorous side of blogging; blinking eyes, gusts of wind, photobombs, and all!

Which outtake was your favorite? Do you want to see more of these behind-the-scenes type of posts? I’d love to hear what you’d like to see more of here on the blog in the comments!
