Thrifty Thursday: Fall Uniform

I can’t believe it’s already September. But can I just say, I’m so excited to start wearing my fall uniform again? Seriously, I love nothing more than cozy sweaters, booties, and my skinny jeans. Expect to see a lot of that this season.

Plaid Button Up, Skinny Jeans, and Booties Outfit / hellorigby!

I could try to make up something to write in this space for you today, but I really don’t have the words. What I do have is this outfit. I can tell you about this outfit, so I will.

Oversized Boyfriend Sweater, Plaid Button Up, Skinny Jeans / hellorigby!

This is the second in my thrifting series (did I mention I was doing that? I don’t think I did.) I’ve been working with Seattle Goodwill to find some amazing thrift pieces to add to my ever-growing wardrobe. I decided to focus on transitional pieces for fall – you saw those happy printed pants from last week, and this week’s find is this cozy boyfriend style sweater. I love finding pieces like oversized sweaters at thrift stores – I find I can get the same look for a lot less. This one is oversized literally… It’s a size large and the arms were huge. It was too cute to give up on it, so I rolled up the sleeves and loved it.

Top: BP
Sweater: Michael Michael Kors, c/o Seattle Goodwill (similar)
Jeans: LC Lauren Conrad
Booties: Report (similar)
Earrings: LC Lauren Conrad

I haven’t really mentioned how obsessed I once was with thrifting. I used to go every other weekend, but then I got a grown up job and I just didn’t have the time. But I’ve been making the time to scope out a new thrift store each weekend, and it’s been a lot of fun. I hope to share some of my best thrifting tips with you in the next Thrifty Thursday, but for now you can check out my favorite piece of thrifting advice on the Seattle Goodwill blog.

So tell me, what does your fall uniform consist of?

LOVE this outfit. That cardigan is EXACTLY what I’m looking for, I was really hoping it wasn’t the item you found at Goodwill so I could get one too. Not that I could have afforded MK not at Goodwill, but you know. My fall uniform is skinnies, my boots (Charlene from ShoeDazzle), and a tee with light jacket. I need a new jacket this year, though. And some black boots, but I can’t find anything I’m in love with.

Oh no! So sorry! So, I did some e-stalking and found it’s fraternal twin in a lighter heather gray with a slightly different weave on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/michael-kors-cardigan-/131119193033?pt=US_CSA_WC_Sweaters&hash=item1e87501bc9 :)

Those Charlene boots are fabulous! I’m having a hard time with black boots too. I had been wearing Heather from ShoeMint from maybe 2 season ago and I’m just not loving them anymore! Hopefully we’ll find some good black boots soon :)

Yay! I see they’re out of that particular pattern, but I would totally recommend it if you like the other colors. It’s super comfortable and feels well made for the price.

I just bought some today from Madewell! LOVE them but they were not particularly cheap. (These are the ones: http://bit.ly/1pDbceV) For more reasonably priced ones, I like Old Navy Rockstar (though the sizing is really weird… so I’d try them on in store) and Nordstrom has a couple of brands I like in BP: Articles of Society (http://bit.ly/1w3s1bz) and Kiind Of (http://bit.ly/1rRWCIl). I also like the ones I’m wearing here (the linked ones) because they don’t stretch out and make my butt all saggy, but they’re thinner than traditional skinny jeans since they’re “jeggings”. Hope that helps! :)

I love this outfit! I really need to get better about going to thrift stores and looking for clothes, I have never been able to find much but I think it’s because I don’t go often enough!

Oh how I wish I could find something nice at the thrift store. But no. Every time I’ve ever gone (which honestly, hasn’t been that often), I never find anything good! Maybe I’m going to the wrong places or maybe I’m not giving it the time needed to find the right places and the right stuff. It truly is a treasure hunt. Some are better at it than others!

Such a cute outfit. I just ordered a plaid shirt the other day. Love me some plaid!

It’s very time consuming… I’m usually at one store for about 1.5-2 hours… scouring racks and trying things on. I find that going more often usually leads to better things, and also helps you figure out what stores are worth going to and which aren’t!

      Thanks V! :)

This is adorable! And I LOVE that your found it at Goodwill. I am such a Goodwill fan. I’m headed there this weekend for the 50% off everything on the first Saturday of the month. It’s like Christmas!

Aw, thanks Rebecca! Goodwill is awesome. Jealous that your Goodwill runs 50% off like that, we just have the typical tag color sales here!

It’s so hit or miss with me, so I totally get where you’re coming from. I think going often helps, and certain stores definitely have better things than others!

Love this outfit – so cozy! I need to search some local thrift stores for fun sweaters. I feel like the thrift store pickings can be a bit slim in NYC, but it doesn’t hurt to look! :)

Thanks Rebecca! That’s the problem with cities – they’re often picked over now that thrifting is more trendy! I was shocked how much good stuff this particular Goodwill had though!
