Tech Thursday: Oyster App for iPhone, the Netflix of Books

Happy Tech Thursday!

I’m a little irrationally excited about receiving an invite to join Oyster, the “Netflix” for books on iPhone (and coming soon to iPad apparently.) For $9.95 a month, you get unlimited access to their library of 100,000+ books.

You can sign up for an invite on their website. The app currently has 4.5 stars on the App Store, and thus far I’ve been super impressed with the design and performance of the app.

Once you receive an invite, you accept the invitation on their website. Then, you’re shown a selection of their library. You choose 5 books that you’d like to read, and they save them for you for quick reading on the app as soon as you sign in.

You then complete the sign up process by providing your credit card, which they’ll bill monthly for $9.95.

I’ll be interested to see what books will be next to hit the app, and I’m hoping to see some newer releases in the near future. I imagine the faster the user base grows, the better book selection will be.

Happy reading!
