How to Get Smooth Straight Hair

Sponsored Post
I’m not a curly girl, but my hair is not quite straight either. It tends to like to hang out between kinked straight hair and beachy waves… with a little frizz and a few flyaways thrown in for good measure.

Over the years, my hair has changed quite a bit in terms of texture. I used to have super wavy hair, it dried in these great waves and of course I didn’t like it then and now miss it terribly. These days, my goal with my hair is generally to get it looking smooth and frizz-free, especially when the rainy season hits! Seattle likes to throw a lot of mist and downpours my way when I’m least expecting it and, of course, hood free.

TRESemme and Suave’s Style Made Simple line has been a huge help in getting my hair smooth and soft. I’m kind of obsessed with the shampoo and conditioner… I don’t know what magic is in there, but it’s basically the softest hair I’ve had in a while. I also noticed they’re not using any parabens and they’re using milder sulfates too. Soft hair and not-so-scary ingredients? Win-win.

With 3 new products from TRESemme and 1 product from Suave, I’m able to get smooth, straight hair in about 10 minutes. (Not including shower time. You’ve gotta believe I take 30-minute showers in the winter. #Sorrynotsorry.)

So how does that happen? I’ll show you.

Step by Step

Smooth Made Simple Tutorial - Smooth Straight Hair with Tresemme & Suave / hellorigby seattle fashion and lifestyle blog

1. Wash your hair with TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner. Gently towel dry.
2. separate hair into 3 sections (right, left, back) and distribute 2 pumps of TRESemme Heat Activated Treatment throughout each section, combing through with fingers.
3. Brush through hair with wet brush or wide tooth comb to distribute product evenly. Sticking your pinky out while you brush really helps make your hair fancier. ;)
4. Blow dry hair on low. I blow dried from the top down, then with went back over with a brush.
5. When hair is completely blown dry, heat up your flat iron. Separate hair into 3 sections (right, left, and back) and pin up sections 2 & 3. Iron hair, working in sections. I prefer a less “pin straight” look, so I did this quickly, just to straighten out any kinks.

6. Set with a light coating of Suave Professionals Luxe Style Smooth Hairspray all over.
7. Brush hairspray through. (I find that if I don’t do this, my hair feels too sticky.)
8. Grab your toothbrush (well, not the one you’ll use on your teeth…) and cover it with hair spray.
9. Brush your hairspray-covered toothbrush from the part down. No more flyaways!
10. Ta-da! Straight, flyaway-free, smooth hair!

Thanks for this post I am definitely going to try the toothbrush idea, my hair is curly and very hard to straighten but when I finally get it straight I have the ones that stick up on top and this will help a lot I think, thank you =)

I’ve never seen anyone do that before, but that’s what I was going to comment on, too! It’s totally unexpected, but if you say it works I’m willing to try it! Especially on those days when I straighten my hair and have a little flyaway airport above my head. :)

It does work! I’m not sure how long it stays that way, but it’s definitely really helpful for photoshoots for tutorials like this one! I have the same airport problem normally ;)

Totally never thought about a sprayed toothbrush for fly-aways. That’s way too smart! I mean, I use hairspray directly on my hair {couldn’t live without it} but I also LOVE this idea for those unruly fly-aways that like to do their own thing.

Your hair looks great! I’ve been growing my hair out for almost 2 years (from a super short pixie cut) and still have no idea what to do with it haha. I would have never thought to use a toothbrush.

I have super thick wavy/frizzy hair and I live in Florida (i.e., home of the worst hair ever) — I’ve found having the right blow dryer is key. I need one with a lot of heat and a lot of power. I took the plunge and got a Cyber Monday deal on a Harry Josh dryer. So pricey but so worth it — my hair has never looked better!

Oh wow, glad to know it was worth it! I’ve never splurged on a hair dryer but I have definitely thought about it!

Thanks Kimberly! Glad the toothbrush tip was helpful – I found out about that on Pinterest awhile ago and this was the perfect time to use it! :)

HAHA, normally no, but it had quite a bit of time to air dry because of all the photos I had to take leading up to the blow dry, plus I think the treatment has magic juice in it… my hair was dry in about 5 minutes. The brush helped too!

This looks amazing! I would consider trying some of these products … but unfortunately I just know that with my hair type. It’s way too wavy. A couple of years ago, I paid good money to have my hair chemically straightened (like a reverse perm ) – and even that didn’t work. They did it twice and the hairdresser was so shocked they refunded me. Haha.

Right now I’m lucky that my hair is at a nice length where i can just wash it and let it dry and it comes out with nice waves. This has never happened before – and even though I need a trim badly – I’m scared to jinx it!

Oh geez, that sounds difficult! That’s how my mom’s hair is too. Very wavy/curly and incredibly thick. I tried straightening her hair once with a flat iron and in a few minutes it had popped back to how it was before! I hope you find someone you can trust to give you a trim – I know it can be scary though. I’ve had some not-so-great haircuts. :/

Thanks Yaitza! I used to as well, I found washing my hair less helped it be less oily over time, but I also stopped applying product near the root.

I’m always on the lookout for new products to use when I straighten my curly hair! And I’ve never heard of the toothbrush trick. Will have to give it a try!

Looks so beautiful. I LOVE my wetbrush and wish I had it years ago! I want to look into the heat activated treatment; that sounds like my kind of hair product!

Oh my gosh I’ve never heard of that toothbrush trick!! I have so many fly aways when I actually blow dry my hair (another incentive not to), which always super frustrating to deal with! I’ll definitely have to try this one. Great post! :)
