Synopsis: A young woman finds herself unemployed after the cafe she’s worked at for several years closes. She must find work, but her only option looks to be caregiving… You know, wiping the butts of the elderly. Lou is not a fan. But, the job agency finds a young quadriplegic man who needs a companion for 6 months. Louisa interviews and is totally unqualified as a caregiver, yet somehow still gets the job. Enter Will Traynor, the 35 year old wheel-chair-bound-quadriplegic who’s sick of being held back by his disability, and he’s got the bad attitude to prove it. Will Lou turn his life around, or will he turn hers into something she could never imagine?
Review: Wow! Loved this book. It was just what I wanted. Touching and sweet, but not totally cheeseball. And no, there is no romance. It is NOT a romance novel. It’s a love story that goes much deeper than the “she-melted-at-the-sight-of-his-dreamy-green-eyes” type books.
I really like Lou as a character. She’s scared of life. Of making a mistake, or being turned down, so she just skates by working a low paying job, helping her family and not doing anything for herself.
I liked Will too. He was a total jerk. He was the spoiled kid, that beautiful boy you knew in high school that had everything going for him. But then, tragedy struck and now he’s stuck in a wheelchair, relying on Nathan, his caregiver and his family to take care of him. And he wants to be done with life.
There were other minor characters as well, Lou’s sister, her mother and father, Will’s parents, Lou’s self-absorbed boyfriend Patrick.
But really, that’s not what the book was about. The book was about falling in love with the wrong person and making mistakes. And learning and growing from them, and becoming the person you were meant to be.
I would highly recommend reading this!
