Book to Review: Life in Outer Space by Melissa Keil
Stars: ★★★★ (4/5)

Synopsis: Sam is an aspiring screenwriter. Camilla is closet musician cool-girl-who’s-really-a-nerd. Mike is Sam’s BFF. So is Adrian. And Allison, but she’s a girl. They’re all a little bit nerdy, and all a little bit teenage-angsty. But they support and are there for each other. And some of them feel a little bit more than they should for another.
Review: OMG so cute. This book was a delightful read after some not-so-good reads this week. It was down to earth, unique, and quirky with a dash of nerdiness and that awkward teenage-ness that you come to expect from a YA book that takes place in the halls of high school.
While I didn’t get many of the World of Warcraft refernces (sorry, just not nerdy enough for that), I did appreciate the sweet love story going on in between Camilla and Sam. Camilla is the new girl. Sam is the geek who falls for her, in her yellow dress and cowboy boots that would look terrible on anyone else.
You also have the best friend cast of characters – Mike, Adrian, Allison. They were all unique and sweet characters that added a bit of charm to the story. Even when the group would fight, you knew that nothing could truly tear them apart. That’s the kind of friends I had in high school + I know I wouldn’t have made it out alive if it weren’t for them! (Ok, maybe a bit dramatic, but you know what I’m saying.)
If you were a fan of Eleanor + Park, I would highly recommend this. I personally liked this book better (I gave E+P 3 stars on Goodreads) because I think the characters felt more authentic. Don’t get me wrong, its not going to blow your mind (it is YA after all) but it’s a sweet story and a quick read that will make you smile.
